Proposals for a 125km pipeline to pass through parts of Trafford are set to progress after another consultation on the scheme started.

An initial consultation on Cadent's HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline ended earlier this year, and a new consultation on its route and other important information runs until November 10.

According to the proposals, the scheme is set to take the gas from a production plant in Ellesmere Port to a hub in Mid Cheshire and on to industrial users or power suppliers across the region.

Its aim is to avoid 10 million tonnes of carbon emissions on an annual basis by 2030 as part of a switch to hydrogen from natural gas.

One corridor is set to take the gas from the hub to Partington, past Warburton.

There are also 'hydrogen above ground installations', or HAGIs, in both areas.

But Cadent is under obligation to consult with the communities affected, hence a series of events including one at The Fuse on Warburton Lane later this month.

Project Director Rob Donovan said: "We look forward to hosting events to meet and talk with the public and gather more views from people to help us develop the best possible pipeline route.

"This is a really important project, both for the local area and nationally. The North West Hydrogen Pipeline and the wider HyNet North West programme have a key role to play in helping the UK to achieve net zero by 2050, as well as to home-grow energy security.

"It will also unlock numerous opportunities for the North West, including the attraction of new business to the area due to low-carbon energy being available."

According to the Planning Inspectorate, which considers all proposals of this scale rather than local authorities, there is little scope for change after the consultation at the pre-application stage.

After the pre-application stage, the aim is to submit an application to the Planning Inspectorate next year and to start work in 2025.
